Frequently Asked Questions for St. Stephen’s Classical Academy

I am interested in sending my child to St. Stephen’s. Where do I start?

Congratulations!  You are making a great decision for your family and child. You can start by visiting our web page to find out about St. Stephen’s Classical Academy at www.ststephensclassicalacademy.com.  Next, contact our Academy to set up an interview with our “Head” (i.e., chief operating officer) of the Academy. Then, check out our Academy with questions like:

            • When are the application deadlines?

            • What school records will you need?

            • Are there any admission requirements?

How much does a private, religious academy cost?

Tuition costs are $5,475 for Elementary; $3,830 for PK4 Pre-School and PK3 Pre-School 5-day a week program, and $2,550 for PK3 Pre-School, 3-day a week program. These tuition costs do not account for the total cost of educating one child, which is approximately an additional two to four thousand dollars above tuition costs; therefore, every child (when admitted) is scholar-shipped.

Is there financial aid available?

Contact our Academy for financial aid information. There is a scholarship fund.

What kind of parochial school are you?

• We are a private academy which serves one parish and is under the direct authority and supervision of our Rector (senior pastor and chief executive officer). The Rector’s authority is then delegated to the “Head” of the School, who is the chief operating officer responsible for supervising and overseeing all the day-to-day administrative responsibilities on site. He/she works in concert with the President of the Academy who is the chief development officer responsible for all advancement activities (annual fund drive, planned giving, and major gift solicitation).

What happens when I am unhappy with my child’s Academy experience?

• If the problem concerns a teacher, you must first work with the teacher to settle

   the concern.

            • Work with the agreed solution for at least a week or more.

            • If the solution is not meeting the need, the next thing to do is contact the Head to

schedule an appointment to sit down and discuss your concerns/issues with the

Head and the teacher involved. The Head will keep open communication with the

             Rector concerning the issues.

• If you concern/issues have not been resolved after meeting with the Head and

the teacher involved then you should write (or email) the Rector’s Office.

                        - Please put all of your concerns/issues in writing.

                        - Give us as much information about your concern(s) as possible.

                        - If you have written documentation, please send a copy of this also.

- Address the email/letter to The Rev. Don ald Armstrong III,

GraceRector@aol.com. Once we have received your letter (or email) we   will do our research and get back with you on your concerns/issues. We protect your confidentiality as much as possible.

Where do I find a copy of the curriculum?

The curriculum is posted on the Web site in our Academy Curriculum Section.

What is the difference between a School Board within a Public School versus a School Board within a Parish?

A Public School Board is a policy making board with governing powers. A School Board within a parish is called a “School Advisory Board” or, in our case, a “Board of Stewards”. This Board supports the work of the academy and advises the Head in designated areas, called Committees. The Board of Stewards does not make policy or have any governing power. The Board of Stewards is chaired by the Rector’s delegate, a priest on the Parish staff, who governs its affairs.
